Hook up RG-16 Mesa MarkIV and Axe-fx

Hi!!

I'm currently using the Rg-16 with a MarkIV and would like to add an Axe-fx. I saw the diagram on the website but wanted to know what kind of cables (balanced, unbalanced or what not) I need to get the most out of this set up.

Also I'd like to know if any ground (or other) noises could be avoided, In my previous set up with lots of pedals I had quite a lot of noise, since then I discovered that the ground was lifted on the RG-16 but wasn't able to see if it helped (as i put my rig in pieces to get an axe....)

Anyway thank you for helping

unless the inputs of you amp accept balanced lines (UNLIKELY) there is little point in using balanced line outputs from the axe-fx.

I always use good quality twisted pair mic cable when making up rig wiring for everything other than Guitar > rig where I uses instrument cable.

This allows you to make individual ground lift cables if you detect a hum problem from a particular connection and also enables you to convert ( if the equipment with balanced in/outs will cope with it) from balanced in/out to std line in/out

es basically the cable used for mics, xls and trs. except you connected it to std 1/4 inch jacks as below

one side red wire to tip ,black and ground sleeve to outer jack ring

on the other jack you connect red to tip and black to the outer ring and leave the cable sleeve unconnected

no problem your welcome

note that you only need to lift the ground shield on connections where you may be getting hum issues, caused by ground loops. The rest of the time you can use std instrument cable

You definitely want to use unbalanced cables, and having a ground lifted cable around is a good idea, especially if you're connecting the Axe with the 4-cable method - you can easily get a ground loop that way.
