How do you update firmware with PC UBS-midi cable?

Hello, new to RJM board, new user, new purchaser.

I have a Mastermind, and a USB-MIDI cable.
Plugging into Windows 7 machine, also have Vista and 8.1 machines available, and Unix too.
Have been trying to search for instructions.
I know this isn't plug and play.
Tried the RJM updater and times out attempting to communicate..

Any help would be appreciated.

A couple of things to check:

When you start up the updater, does the MIDI interface's name appear in the input and output menus? Also, do you have the interface's output connected to the Mastermind's Remote In, and the interface's input connected to the Mastermind's MIDI Output?

I've tried all three.. Doesn't seem to communicate outwards..
The USB lights up, but midi doesn't seem to..
Maybe 64bit Windows doesn't work...

I'm very new to midi, I took yesterday to figure out the controller .. I think there is room to provide a beginner guide, to allow more inexperienced people into the midi inner circle and RJM products..

Trying on 2 different laptops.
One running Windows 7 64 bit
One running Windows Vista 32 bit

seems to be an issue somewhere.. just can't figure it out..

The output you select should probably be USB2.0-MIDI or maybe MIDIOUT2.

Have you used this MIDI interface with other programs to test it?

i don't think i have any way of doing further tests..
How does the update usually work?
Maybe i'll need to buy an old XP desktop with midi outs and do it that way..

Basically, the update starts, the lights on the Mastermind flash, and the progress bar in the program starts moving. It takes about 30 seconds.

Using another MIDI interface would be a good next step.
