Send MIDI PC/CC messages to a computer

If I want to control a program on a computer using MIDI messages from the GT 22 do I use the same port that I hook to a computer for writing/reading the pedal board configuration from the editor software or is there another way it must be hooked up?

You can (and should) use the same USB port. Just create a device in the Devices tab titled "PC", set its type to Generic, and set MIDI Port to USB. Then, any messages you send to it will go to the computer.
