Looking for Flight Case Recommendations

Hi folks,

What flight cases are you using for your mastermind GT's? I've got the GT16 a mission SP1 and and a Fractal EV-1 to house. Plus I'd like a little extra space for any pedals that i might add in the future.

I really don't trust the velcro in most models - or more specifically the glue that holds the velcro strips in place. I need a hard case thats going to withstand tumbles in the back of a truck and isn't going to let the pedals move around inside. I think I'd rather screw the pedals into the board - seems much more secure.

I'm in Europe too so I need something that is available here. All suggestions welcome!

Thanks in advance.

I've had great luck with roadcasesusa.com. I believe they ship to Europe. I have shock cases for my tube amps and some pedal board cases as well. I would get the 3/8", as the 1/4" construction uses lighter duty hardware.

I bought a GT22 used and it came with a board and case from Trailer Trash. The board is solid and well made. the case is good, although made to lighter specs than I like (1/4" laminate, light duty hardware, no ball corners.) It's a "Road case" not really what I'd call a "Flight case". I'm sure they offer beefier specs, they seem to build whatever you want.

As mentioned above, the big key is fitting the case with the right density foam to keep things from moving around.

Hello,

I bought few weeks ago a Thon case Thomann with my dimensions. Realy nice product.

In same time, buy foam in order to adjust thickness in cover, because width between GT and pedals are diferents

Thanks Frank (and everyone) for the suggestions. The thomann case looks like the way to go, cutting the foam to fit the pedals.

Hi Frank,

Did you drill a hole into the side of your case for the 7 pin cable? Where did you manage to find a 7 pin cable which runs from the GT to the edge of the case??

Thanks for sharing!
Ralph

If you\re thinking of putting a jack on the outside of the case, you might want to put a 6 pin XLR, as they are a lot more robust. Keeping DIN plugs away from feet is a good idea.

Yeah, I had considered this but its too late fore that now, I'd need a different phantom box and its impossible to find 6-pin XLR cables - at least here in the UK. Because of import, the XLR phantom box would be another £150 and I just don't have that kind of money to waste!!

Here in the states, it's hard enough to find the 6 pin XLR connectors, let alone cables or a phantom box. I detest that DIN connectors are the standard for MIDI. They're not very solid and they're a pain to solder. I'm working on switching where ever I can, at least on external connections. I got spoiled by a GT22 and a final production Rack Gizmo. My smaller rig is more of a challenge, as nothing has the XLR's.

Nice clean set up you got there, by the way.

Yes I drilled on left side. I let small space between GT and case (3cm) in order to pass the cable. Take a look at pictureDSC_0287.JPG DSC_0289.JPG

My XLR are 7 pins, Midi right angle too.
I purchased from Thomann my XLR

I purchased my cable from RS componantswith a lot of shield, but it's really expensive.:

Thomann propose this one, better I think :https://www.thomann.de/fr/sommer_cable_sc_octave_tube.htm

For small stages, I take possibility to take off GT and pedals from the flight case. But for that I need to plug directly cable to the GT (XLR female is fixed on case)
So, I made a small adaptator...DSC_0293.JPG
- Female XLX :https://www.thomann.de/fr/neutrik_nc7mx.htm

My MIDI right angle 7 pin connector comes from Designacable UK:http://www.designacable.com/catalog/product/view/id/4491/
You have to take off the ring.

Sure for all, you need to use a hand soldering.

I hope this helps you

Very very helpful, thank you for taking the time to share it. Nice build, i think i will do something similar

I have a MMGT22 with 3 exp pedals mounted on Pedal Train pro. I order the PT pro with the road case. Seems pretty darn sturdy and obviously is perfect for the PT Pro.
