So the fact that you can only change loop re-ordering per preset is a bit of a problem when considering a few things.
It would be amazing if you could have only two drives on your board and flip the routing to run one into the other with one button. So for example, Drive A would be loop 1, drive B would be loop 2. If on my drive page I could have a respective button to turn on Drive A by itself, Drive B by itself, Drive A > Drive B or a button that flips and goes Drive B > Drive A. Having this easily accessible on the fly doesn’t seem possible right now because you’d need the editor, and then it only flips it for that one preset that you did it for.
Another area where tying loop order to a button change would be useful is if you were using a multi effects (lets say HX one for example, even though my actual use is the CBA LnF) and want different placement based on effect. If I could set a button to correlate turning on a chorus preset and moving the HX one to wherever I’d like chorus (before delay), and then another button to correlate to a trem that I wanted after my delays, it would allow for more flexibility and unlock more potential of a pedal like that.
Ultimately, I think my problem is more pertinent to something like the second example. Let’s say I wanted those two buttons to work like that so that when I’m going to make my presets for songs, I have those two options available at any time. Right now, I’d have to go into the editor every time I know I want to use trem, even though I KNOW I always want my trem after delay and chorus before delay.
I’m guessing the difficulty is that you have to have some kind of logic standard so the commands don’t clash, like if you had a button on that told loop 6 to move before loop 3 and another button that told loop 1 to move after loop 2, those buttons then would have to have some kind of logic that discerns which of the competing commands would make one go before the other. I just feel like there has to be some way to accomplish this.
Ultimately, it makes me feel like implementing a pedal like the HX one or CBA LnF that do a lot is hard to get a lot of use out of because the loop reordering is not easily usable on the fly. Overall, I will always prefer implementation of RJMs software instead of things like Morningstar, but the Morningstar ML10X has the ability to have set orders that you can change (but then lose the ability to turn on and off individual loops).
I wonder if it’s possible to have loop order “presets” similar to how a midi device’s PCs are stored in the RJM software, so that you could scroll through loop orders and assign one per preset. This seems like a middle ground that would be doable without a ton of new logic in the software.
