MultiBox specification

I have a question about the MultiBox specification.

[1]Are the RJM Mastermind series the only MIDI controllers that can be powered from the MultiBox's MIDI IN/Phantom Power OUT jacks?

[2] The manual states that the MIDI OUT terminal is "Bidirectional compatible" but does this mean that it is only compatible with models that support bidirectional MIDI transmission, such as Fractal or Kemper?

[3]Does the internal Jumper (JP15 and JP14) setting allow to set whether or not phantom power is supplied from the MIDI OUT terminal of the Multibox?

Thanks for your questions;

(1) The MultiBox can be used to phantom power any MIDI controller, but it must be capable of receiving a DC voltage with either polarity.

(2) While the MIDI OUT bi-directionality is usually used with things like a Fractal or Kemper, it is universal - the important thing is that the MIDI cable connected to this jack is wired correctly. If only using this jack as a MIDI OUT jack, then you can use a standard MIDI cable, but if using it for bi-directional MIDI, then you have to make sure the cable is wired properly.

(3) The MIDI OUT jack cannot provide phantom power - it is only a 5-pin MIDI jack, so it can only provide bi-directional MIDI. Jumpers JP14 and JP15 are used to make the connection between the MIDI IN and MIDI OUT jacks active (default) or passive. Passive allows the MultiBox to be used as an old-school MIDI patch-box with a direct connection between the MIDI IN and MIDI OUT jacks (for bi-directional MIDI).

Thank you for your kind reply to my question!!
Do only the MIDI OUT and MIDI IN terminals support bidirectional MIDI?

Could you please give me a specific example of how to use the following sentence that is written on the product page?
  • Bidirectional MIDI Converter – splits a bidirectional MIDI connection into separate MIDI input and output jacks, or combines a MIDI input and output connection into a bidirectional MIDI connection

Many of our Mastermind products have MIDI OUT jacks which can support bidirectional MIDI, for example with the Fractal AxeFx. Using the MultiBox by placing it in a rack with the AxeFx, you would connect the MIDI IN and MIDI OUT from the AxeFx to the MultiBox. Then you would connect a long, single cable between the MultiBox and the Mastermind. This is probably one of the most common uses of the MultiBox combining or separating MIDI input and output jacks for bidirectional MIDI.
