Rack Depth Question

I've been debating getting a 22" or a 24" depth rack with 18" shelves for my gizmo's / pedals. What do you all use? I saw this video of TJ Osborne's rack rig build, and it is very similar to my rig build. It looks like he has a 24" depth rack but I'm not sure. Does anyone use 24" racks? if so, are you able to load / unload that by yourself? That is another major concern of mine. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. - John

1) How important is weight and cartage? Big question is how big is the rack space?
2) Depth should be dictated by accessibility and cable management. If your pedal drawer is 18" what is your cabling requirements look like? Power? How much room are you going to need when you pull out the drawer and return it to the stowed position. (Room for cabling)
3) 24" is really deep. Deeper than most. Spec'ing out a 24" rack is a consideration.
4) The extra 2" does allow better cable management and rear rack rails for other auxiliary items such as power supplies, cooling and ventilation, loom dressing, etc.

Personally, majority of my floating and shock mounted racks are 22" spec'd since the equipment housed in it are not that deep. Power amps typically require depth. Effects and preamps not so much. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the response Theresa. I'll be getting a 10U rack which will eventually be filled up...not sure what the total weight would be once everything is mounted. I'm thinking the 22" depth is the way to go as well - the 18" sliding shelves are for guitar pedals and it will give me a few extra inches in the back for cable management. Thanks again for chiming in.
