This $299 pedal could be an amazingly handy tool with your RJM products, your MIDI controllable pedals and even as a diagnostic tool in the studio. The site names the RJM Mastermind and MMGT as compatible. I doubt that there would be difficulty in using the programmer to make the LT or RBC series work as well.

Step Audio also has a new pedal that "transforms the DigiTech Whammy pedal into a pitch-shifting sequencer". The demo videos are quite interesting.

The forthcoming Riff-Step is what looks to be another tasty pedal that is a "MIDI effects sequencer and dynamic preset generator". There is some info on what it will do and how to use it but no demo videos as of yet.

Here's a description of the Status from the Step Audio website.

STATUS™ by Step Audio is a powerful MIDI Display, MIDI Clock Generator, and MIDI Mapper that adds tremendous functionality to your MIDI rig. STATUS can be quickly programmed using our Online Programmer or on the device.

STATUS displays custom messages in response to Program Changes.

STATUS generates MIDI Clock for each program and allows 6 different tap input ratios. STATUS can alternately pass or block an external incoming MIDI Clock selectively for each program. STATUS also generates synchronized MIDI CC commands for syncing Line 6's MIDI-enabled pedals.

STATUS responds to MIDI Program Changes by immediately sending out up to 5 additional Program Changes as well as 16 Control Change or Note On messages all on separate MIDI Channels. STATUS can also actively filter various types of incoming MIDI data, dynamically re-map 2 separate controllers, and rectify running status data.

STATUS features a number of display options including:

.:. Custom messages in response to MIDI Program Changes
.:. Dynamic re-mapping of 2 different controllers
.:. BPM Display with 3 different display styles
.:. Tempo Flashing
.:. Selective Data Display (a very useful MIDI tool), and
.:. Realitme message display.

Why use STATUS?

STATUS is designed to enhance an existing MIDI system.

.:. MIDI-enabled effects and devices generally have slots where you store presets. Rather than hassling with moving presets from one location to another, use STATUS to access any preset in response to a MIDI Program Change.

.:. Devices like the Digitech Whammy have their settings tied to specific MIDI Program Change numbers. Use STATUS to select the Whammy setting that you want to use for a particular program.

.:. Still other devices like Moog's MIDI-enabled MoogerFooger pedals don't store presets at all, but instead accept MIDI Control Changes and Note On messages to change settings. STATUS allows you to create "virtual" presets on those devices by sending out up to 16 Control Changes and Note On messages at a time. STATUS also lets you quickly copy those presets from one program to another.

.:. Many effects that sync to MIDI Clock will always adjust their timing if the clock is present (including Strymon pedals), but sometimes you want an independent or faster time on one pedal while having others synced to the clock. STATUS lets you block MIDI clock for individual programs so you can choose when a particular device is synced.

.:. Lots of effects allow a MIDI expression controller to adjust particular parameters like volume or timing in real-time, but having separate controllers assigned to different pedals is horribly inefficient. STATUS lets you map 2 separate expression controllers to different pedals using parameter of your choice for each individual program.

.:. A number of newer MIDI-enabled effects use MIDI Bank Select commands (Control Changes 0 and/or 32) to allow more than the standard 128 presets. For example the Eventide H9 uses 512 presets. STATUS allows you to easily access those additional presets in response to the basic 128 MIDI Program Changes.

.:. Some MIDI devices send information in "Running Status" format to save bandwidth, but virtually no guitar effects respond to messages in that format. STATUS automatically rectifies Running Status messages so your MIDI-enabled pedals can read them.

.:. If your guitar rig is synced to a computer DAW or synth-based MIDI system, there is a good chance that lots of MIDI information is being sent that can confuse your gear. STATUS lets you selectively filter out MIDI data before it hits your rig.

.:. STATUS is bult like a tank, and ready for serious touring rigs. No plastic MIDI jacks, only riveted steel jacks and a custom 16-gauge steel enclosure. The display sits at an optimal viewing angle and STATUS is taller than most pedals so it sits above your pedalboard, making it simple to read. The recessed knob sits below the top of the device and inside the back wall, keeping it safe from feet, while remaining easy to use.
