LED specs for external switches

I did some searching so forgive me if this has been answered:

What LED spec should I hunt for when building an external switch box for the Mastermind GT? Since a red LED is a red LED, I guess I'm looking mostly for voltage spec.

Anything that has a forward voltage of about 2.5V or less should be ok. High brightness ones would be best, except for those that don't meet the voltage limit.
 
I used red LEDs that were just under 2V for mine. I have 2 dual-switch external boxes, each switch with an LED. They work great, and are super handy for functions that don't require a display.
