Maybe it could be implemented so that we have the option of adding a preset to a setlist and when we did, all it would do underneath is create a song to wrap the preset in and assign it to the setlist. It could use the name of the preset as the default song name. If you were using an Axe-Fx III, you could also have the option of choosing a scene with the preset and the default name of the song would be some combination of preset and scene name. Before finishing you might also present the default name of the song and allow editing before saving.
Using this method you wouldn't have to add any extra memory infrastructure(I think). You would just have to add another menu option to "Add by Preset" which would bring up a list of presets to choose from instead of the list of songs. While creating a set you would always have the option to add by song or preset. The set list would still just be a list of songs, it would just be easier to create them if you are a "one preset per song" or a "One preset/scene per song" type of user.
It would also be nice to have the same functionality that could convert a list of presets, including ranges of presets into songs. ie: 1-20,110,114, 298-341,424
I would use this feature a lot.
