GCX Mode

I don't own one, but the instructions are to hold down switch 1 while powering it up (keep the button pressed until all the LEDs flash). Then release the button, ensure button 7 is lit up (press it if it isn't) to enable GCX compatability mode, and choose the GCX number using buttons 5 and 6 (both off for 1, 5 on for 2, 6 on for 3 and both 5 & 6 on for 4). Then hit the Write button.

Martin's got it right. Please note that the Mini Amp Gizmo, by default, is set up for GCX2, not GCX1. Make sure that buttons 5 and 6 are set accordingly for the GCX number you wish to use.

okay - stupid newbie question - what is the gcx number even referring to?
The Ground Control Pro foot controller can control up to 4 different GCX units, as long as they're assigned a separate GCX number (basically changes the MIDI CC #s that correspond to each loop). It's just the way of telling it which unit is which.

so if i have a real gcx but it is handling f/x then the amp gizmo has to be seen by the ground control as "gcx #2" ?

I think so, yeah. I've not got a Ground Control myself, and it's a couple of years since I looked at one, but I believe that's the case if you're using the Amp Gizmo in GCX compatibility mode, rather than using Program Changes and the built in patch storage on the AG.

that is kind of what I thought--I figured that if I put the amp gizmo in GCX compatibility mode the ground control would automatically recognize the amp gizmo as "gcx-2" and that would be it ---I could program a preset on the ground control using whatever I wanted from GCX-1 and GCX-2 - but for some reason the amp gizmo i.e "gcx-2" doesn't appear on the ground control only gcx-1 which is the actual gcx in my rack

Have you turned on GCX2 on the Ground Control Pro? From the manual:

If you have one or more GCX Guitar Audio Switchers, you must enable them here. The Ground Control Pro can control up to 4 GCX units to provide any combination of 32 audio loops and switches.
Enter Setup mode by pressing both [SETUP MODE] buttons at the same time. Then select this category by pressing [EXPANDERS].
To enable the GCX, press [+/YES] to turn GCX #1 on. If you have more than one GCX, press [SELECT 2] to access the next GCX. You can continue to enable GCX units 2 through 4.

It seems like you are on the right path- I spoke to voodoo labs and apparently my GC is older and needs some sort of expansion chip to allow for multiple GCX operation - it has already been ordered - in theory I will install it and be able to turn on GCX-2 in the GC and the amp gizmo will magically respond to the GC- I'll post an update . Thanks
