How to integrate another MIDI device?

I have the GT/22 connected to my Axe-Fx III through a 6-pin XLR at the RJM side and MIDI IN + MIDI OUT at the Axe-Fx side.

I'm considering integrate a MIDI device that sends MIDI (not receiving) or through MIDI-over-USB.
How can I do that, without disturbing the bi-directional MIDI traffic between RJM and Axe-Fx?

I can't use the MIDI IN port on the RJM because the manual says so.
Can I use the RJM's USB port to receive MIDI, and doesn't that disturb the incoming signal through XLR?
 
The USB port can only be used to connect to a MIDI host (computer, iPad, etc.) If what's doing the sending acts in this role, you can use USB.

You can use the MIDI In port, as long as you're using bidirectional MIDI on the MIDI Out or XLR MIDI Out to connect to the Axe-Fx. The only limitation is that you can't use the XLR MIDI In port and MIDI In port at the same time.
