Hum when I connect MIDI to Timeline

I'm getting a low pitch hum when I connect MIDI from the PBC to Timeline. Ground loop maybe? PBC and Timeline are powered by Mondo, Amp is plugged into another outlet. Timeline is currently connected after the PBC, rather than in a loop.

MIDI shouldn't cause ground loops, it's designed to avoid them. Is your MIDI cable wired correctly? A properly wired cable has all pins wired through, pin 2 (the center one in the "C" shape) should be connected using the cable's shield wire, and the connector shields should not be connected at all.

I tried two different ones. One is a Hosa molded one, the other is either BTPA or Disaster Area one, can't quite remember. Seems unlikely that they'd both be wrong but could be I guess. Are there any other possibilities?

I recommend making or modifying the a MIDI cable to disconnect the shield wire from pin 2 on the side of the cable that plugs into the Timeline. That may help.
