Noise Gate Pedal

Hi, I recently bought a Noise Gate pedal for the first time. I'm trying out the MXR Smartgate. The pedal is removing a little bit of the high end when engaged. I would think that when the gate is open the full sound should come through, and when activated the gate would stop all sound. I would expect that threshold and release time would not effect the sound when the gate is open. I'd like to try a few different models and would be grateful if anyone can recommend one that will not color the sound when the gate is open. My MXR sounds different when it's active compared to turned off.

Have you looked into the BOSS NS-2 Noise Suppressor? It's quite a popular unit and apparently effective. The ISP Decimator II also has some fans so it's worth looking at it too. When I use a gate I have an old BOSS NF-1 but they're not subtle nor are they common.
