Kemper Player with RJM Mastermind LT

First of all: This is my first posting here and the RJM Mastermind LT is a great MIDI Controller. Especially I like it´s flexibility to program it with the MM Editor, it´s build like a tank, enough space between the switches, the big letters and numbers on the screen and the choice of the LED colors.
I bought it at looperparadise.de (Germany).
As a MIDI beginner it took me some weeks to find the configuration that works with my Kemper Player including the paid Level II and III upgrades.
I wondered why USB to USB only worked for the first banks and not further. I found the info under https://www.rjmmusic.com/forum/index.php?threads/mastermind-lt-firmware-editor-5-3-1-release.6424/ that the Kemper Player still needs a USB host adapter to connect. In the thread https://www.rjmmusic.com/forum/index.php?threads/kemper-player-usb-midi.6347/ there was the info, that the FORE MIDI to USB Interface works. I ordered it and can confirm that.

However I want to go further using the RJM Mastermind LT also as MIDI Controller for the App mobilesheets pro on my tablet. That will be the topic of another thread.

Best regards,
Dieter

Thanks for posting the results of your testing! You should be able to control any MIDI enabled app on your tablet. Set up a Generic device to represent the tablet, and set MIDI Port to USB. Then you can send it any messages you like.

Thanks a lot for your hint to set MIDI Port to USB for the MIDI channel (3) I use with the tablet.

My first idea was to use a MIDI Interface like the CME U6MIDI Pro at the MIDI Out Port in front of the FORE MIDI to USB Interface. I tried it, but then the switching for the Kemper Player wasn´t correct anymore. And I don´t know why, because it was only configurated as Thru box. A friend of mine testet the CME U6MIDI Pro with his pedalboard and it worked fine.

So I tried your hint to use the USB Port. First I thought the USB A Port would be mentioned, but that didn´t work.
So I tried the USB B Port for PC with USB B to USB C cable and not only MIDI connection with my tablet worked, also MIDI actions from the RJM Mastermind LT could be recognized and used in MobileSheets Pro.

I tried also a Bluetooth connection via WIDI (USB B port of the RJM Mastermind LT) with the CME Uhost. The Bluetooth connection with the tablet was there, but no MIDI actions recognized in MobileSheets Pro. I will test this with different USB cables again. Any other suggestion?

So, are you saying that the USB B to USB C solution worked? If so, is there a different solution that you want to use?

Yes, USB B to USB C solution from RJM to my Android tablet works fine.
For WIDI I will try it again with another cable. I got the experience, that in a lot of cases cable could make the difference.

At the moment, I don´t need a different solution. But maybe in the future. Who knows...

Cables matter for sure. Also, it's possible that the CME or Fore products might be filtering out or altering some MIDI messages, which could prevent communication from working. Since you have one working configuration, it'll be easier to compare other configurations to see what works and what doesn't.

A good test would be to use a MIDI monitor app on your tablet. If it's an iPad, Pocket MIDI works well. I imagine that there are equivalent apps on Android tablets, if that's what you have.

With a MIDI monitor app, you can see what messages are being sent to the tablet. Comparing the USB B - USB C cable's output to the other configurations may give us a little insight as to what's going on.
